A Symphony of Chaos

symphony of chaos
(highly experimental work with pencils and powdered graphite on 30x40cm; took about 10 to 15 hours)

What do you see when you face chaos? I see monsters, monsters everywhere.
What does that reveal about me? It is said, in chaos we seek the order of the known.
Am I simply so familiar -so chummy- with monsters that this makes me see their symphony in the chaos?

Without a doubt, this experimental work was a huge success for me and changed my whole working style with pencils and powdered graphite. It’s so intuitive and perfectly fits the symbolism of my beloved mind monsters. I am definitly going to do more works like this one and experiment more with it.
I feel like I’ve found my (new) way of using the monochrome materials and I’m absolutely happy with it.

Here are some detail views, as there sure is a lot to discover:

  3. Oh I didn’t comment there, while it’s one of my all-time fav.

It’s chaos, but still an organized one, with monster kind enough to draw a path which lead…well maybe toward more chaos x)
What I find interesting, but am not sure of the nature is the circle on the head of the foreground big monster’s head: it echoes well to the “exit hole” but I don’t see clearly if it’s a part of the monster or a reflect of light or something else.
I really love the construction of this drawing, with the whirling effect. If you’re going to present your work to a gallery, this one should really be in, imho.

I’m glad it’s one of your faves too c: I absolutely love this one (and Èkfrasi as well, as it is a very similar technique and I just loooove working in this kind of way <3<3).
The monster is sort of 'jumping' through the circle (which is there for symbolic reasons) - and as the monster is too big for the circle, the circle gets destroyed: therefore the monster breaks through it, breaks the order. But, as you said, this chaos has an own 'organized' flow, because chaos is the natural order. (at least that's what I think I thought back then half a year ago when drawing this XD)

  4. That’s good you like to work that way, because I want to see more of those x)

By “chaos is the natural order”, do you mean that chaos is inherent to Nature or that it is more generally normal?

    1. Author

You will see more of them in the future for sure! c:

Probably a mix of both. I don’t really believe that there is something like 100% order – there’s always at least a little chaos in it. Therefore, chaos is a more natural state than order.
      Does that make sense XD?

      1. I’m not 100% sure, but isn’t a stable nuclide without chaos?
Let’s push the thought further: radionuclides always naturally evolve to become stable nuclide, thus it is a situation in the Nature where chaos head for absolute order.
And as the nuclides are the basis of everything, we could say that order is more natural than chaos =p

Well, simple rules may describe/command/structure/control individual atoms, but the behaviour prescribed by those rules may well be chaotic.
For example the human heart: made up of tons of atoms. It is seen as a “pump for blood” – a description that breaks something so complex down to something so simple & orderly. But it’s not really true. The rythm of the heartbeat continually varies by tiny, but measureable, amounts. And that’s caused by chaotic internal dynamics.

Also mutations of genomes don’t usually happen in an ordered way. Mutations are chaos.
Exchange of genetic material during meiosis: random, chaos – though it’s a more or less ordered process. But there is chaos on it and this chaos highly affects the outcome – which genes the offspring will carry.

          etc. etc. etc. blablabla xD

Alright, in the end it’s – once again – a matter of view and opinion, just like many other things,

  5. Big Bang is something chaotic (I suppose) so chaos win in the end x)

And yourself? More chaotic or more orderly? x)

    1. Author

      Good example x)

Depends. I guess I’m both equally and sometimes I’m more chaotic, sometimes more orderly.
      And you? x)

      1. Ah I would have thought you as more chaotic than orderly, like 70-30%

Dunno, sometime I feel like I’m alternating between full chaos and full order x)

        1. Author

Really? xD well, maybe you’re right.

haha, I can relate to that^^
